NEWS

A wonderful evening with the acoustic FAIRPORT CONVENTION on Saturday. The music was excellent, a great selection of old favourites with a smattering of new material for good measure, and they created a real special ambiance with their witty batter. The acoustic format gives a much more stripped down, intimate feel to the evening, very different from the electric gigs, but in some ways much more pleasing. I, for one, never tire of seeing this band live, they never disappoint! But on to pastures new! A random selection of shows coming soon to a venue near you....

SOCIETY
If you're a fan of Crosby, Stills & Nash, or West Coast rock in general, you've got to come to this gig! Society are a three piece country rock band who specialise in gorgeous three part harmonies. Comprising guitarist Matt Wise, bassist Ben Lancaster and on all things percussive F. Scott Kenny, their recorded and live sound has echoes of CSNY, The Band, The Heartbreakers, The Jayhawks and the late, great Ronnie Lane and Slim Chance. Matt Wise composes most if not all of their material and when all three sing in harmony the result is simply stunning. Apart from their UK headline shows, Society have completed two tours of Canada along with a string of dates in the American mid-west gaining them a whole new legion of fans in the USA. This constant touring has honed both their musical and vocal chops and in the winter of 2008 Society left the disused stable that served as their rehearsal space and spent time recording their debut album entitled “SONGS FROM THE BRICKHOUSE”. This is the first outing for the new Flying Burrito Club (in the Rock Plaza), it's a steal at only £7.50 at the Gig List price, so please do come along and give it your support. This will be a 'cabaret style' seated event.

SOCIETY THE FLYING BURRITO CLUB, SEVENOAKS THURSDAY 27 MAY TICKETS £7.50

THE SKATONICS
Legendary Kent Ska band, The Skatonics, return to the area on Saturday 19th June to unleash their classic Ska sounds at the start of the Sevenoaks Summer Festival at the SoundHouse in Otford. They have been playing to enthusiastic crowds across the South of England since Spring 2007 and are rapidly becoming one of the best Ska bands in the UK, wowing audiences with their unique style. The Evening Standard said of their recent gig at the famous London venue, the Hope and Anchor, "A raucous, rollicking, heavy, heavy monster of a gig." The Skatonics unique selling point is their energy. You will have seen nothing like it! And not just the band, no Skatonics audience can keep still for dancing to the rocksteady beat! Naturally, there will be no seats at this gig.
SKATONICS THE SOUNDHOUSE, OTFORD SATURDAY 19 JUNE TICKETS £9.00

LEGEND - A TRIBUTE TO BOB MARLEY
Legend are eight terrific musicians and singers dedicated to the life and music of the late, great Bob Marley. This dynamic band, led by the charismatic Michael Anton Phillips has a pedigree second to none, whose members have worked with such reggae greats as The Mighty Diamonds, Dennis Brown, Rankin Roger, The Beat, Burning Spear, Apache Indian, Desmond Decker and many more. Legend's two hour show covers the very best of Bob Marley’s timeless classics: Is This Love, No Woman No Cry, Waiting in Vain, Exodus, I Shot The Sheriff, Jamming, Could You Be Loved, these are just a few of his million selling hits brought to you in this fantastic two hour tribute to the acknowledged master of reggae. The musicianship is flawless, with that irresistible reggae groove compelling you to move, and the presence of Bob Marley himself is invoked in the skilled and respectful portrayal by Michael. THE LEGEND LIVES ON………….. Hype apart, I've been lucky enough to see these guys live on a couple of occasions and I can tell you they are absolutely superb. This really is a show not to be missed.

LEGEND THE ROCK PLAZA, SEVENOAKS SATURDAY 3 JULY TICKETS £12.00
